The latest popular music genre consisting of electronic dance music and bass, that originated in South London. You have probably heard of Skrillex and Bassnectar.

He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. He later released the My Name Is Skrillex EP for free on his official MySpace page, he later released Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in 2010 and More Monsters And Sprites EP in 2011. Favorite TV Shows AXED!!!!

What a vicious day from the ‘suits’ on the TV networks!!!

So many damn good shows CANCELLED!!!! And most of them were this blog writer’s most-watched shows.  Chief casualty to my mind is “AWAKE“, probably the most intriguing show for years. Perhaps that was it’s downfall. The viewing public don’t seem to like shows that make them think, and “Awake” certainly exercised the little grey cells. I just hope they play out the rest of the one and only season.

Also gone – “The River” – captivating, weird, wild, supernatural and riveting watching. Again, perhaps too complicated for the general “Simpsons”- loving public.

“Alcatraz” where prisoners from 1963 mysteriously turn up in 2012, still the same age, still killing people. Another one where the viewer has to THINK, so it loses out.

“G.C.B.” (Good Christian Bitches) – deliciously poking fun at the conservative Christian right, hugely funny and glamorous and starring the amazing Kristen Chenoweth. GONE!! Probably offended the bible belt.

“Missing” has gone missing. CIA mystery about an ex-agent’s son being kidnapped and her frantic attempts to find him.

“Pan Am” – To us, a surprise nostalgic delight about a group of stewardesses in the 60s on the long-defunct airline with a hint of mystery thrown in as one of them is a ………. spy. But one season is apparently enough. Boo!

Other favorite shows we won’t be seeing any more – “Harry’s Law”, “Ringer” and “Secret Circle.”

I begin to wonder if it’s worth watching any new shows.  You just get into the stories, get involved with the characters and then they disappear. Lets all just watch re-runs of “Lost.”

DID YOU JOIN THE WORLDWIDE BLACKOUT ON JUNE 10th?

READ THE BOOK THAT INSPIRED THE SHOW

I just finished the book and while it is VERY different to the TV series based on it, it had me hooked from page one!

Wow! The Brits really are taking over the TV world! Of the main cast, Joseph Fiennes as FBI agent Mark Benford is a Brit, as is his on-screen wife played by Sonya Walger (‘Penny’ from “Lost“) and, Dominic Monaghan, ‘Charlie’, also from “Lost” plays ‘Simon’, and he is also, of course, from the other side of the Atlantic. But the British domination of the show doesn’t stop there as the first episode also introduced us to ‘Lloyd Simcoe’ played by the well known British actor Jack Davenport, and we also saw briefly the character ‘Fiona Banks’ played by “E.R.” actress Alex Kingston, yet another Brit.

Co-incidentally, Davenport was one of the stars of the hugely-successful British comedy “Coupling” while Sonya Walger starred in the seriously unfunny American re-make of the same show.

Speaking of the “Lost” connection, “Flash Forward’ is being touted as the successor to “Lost” and the makers hope it will build up the same fanatical following of that excellent series. Early on in the action of the first episode of “Flash Forward”, my sharp-eyed wife spotted a billboard in the background advertising “Oceanic Airlines”. A nice touch!

Back to the action and “Flash Forward” centers around a mysterious world-wide event when every human being on Earth (well all except one) loses consciousness for exactly two minutes, seventeen seconds. This causes chaos as planes fall out of the sky, cars smash into each other, patients undergoing operations die as no doctor is awake to care for them, and as everybody awakes the world has been plunged into chaos.

While people are blacked out they have hallucinations, or dreams, and gradually, as they compare their experiences it becomes clear that the action they all experienced took place on exactly the same date, April 29th 2010. The main character, FBI agent Mark Benford experiences himself  working on trying to explain what had happened six months earlier to everybody, while his wife finds herself with another man, another agent recalls being in London talking to a Scotland Yard detective, who then confirms that the same incident, a bird crashing into the window, had happened in HER flash-forward. But another of the main characters didn’t experience anything while he was blacked out. Does this mean that before April 29th 2010 he’ll be dead?

Towards the end of the intriguing first episode, while reviewing video of the event happening simultaneously across the world, an FBI agent spots one man who is NOT asleep, but is walking around the rim of a baseball stadium. Now the hunt is on to find him and see what he knows.

This was an excellent first episode, gripping and nail-biting. I hope the cast and producers can keep up this pace.

Our site will feature all the music played in every episode of this series so if you are looking for a “Flash Forward Soundtrack”, you’ve reached the right place!

The Ting Tings

Introducing the Ting Tings

In another of our reviews of bands that are destined for the big time (or in this case have pretty well made it big already in Europe) we present The Ting Tings, a duo from the north of England, consisting of Jules De Martino, and Katie White, who share vocals. The Ting Tings had a UK number one single in May 2008 with “That’s Not My Name” while their album “We Started Nothing” also hit number one in the UK albums chart. Katie White was a member of a punk band called TKO and first met Jules De Martino when he was brought in as a writer of material for that band.

Later they met again at University and after each had short-lived stints with other groups, formed The Ting Tings, and soon found themselves in great demand for gigs, and had their biggest break when featured on a BBC Manchester show “Introducing” which presented new bands to the listening public. Word of their local success in the Manchester area spread and they were soon playing on a national stage, at first supporting other groups before becoming a headline act themselves. They played the world famous Glastonbury Festival in 2007 and played live on “Later With Jools Holland” the esteemed music show on BBC TV. In February 2009 they were the “Featured Artist Of The Month” on the American web-site TunesOnTheTube.tv

Their music has been featured a lot on American TV shows and amongst the series that have featured the duo’s music are “Gossip Girl” (“We Started Nothing”) “The Hills” (“Great DJ” and “Shut Up And Let Me Go”) and “One Tree Hill” (“Be The One”) and more appearances are scheduled over the next few weeks. “Shut Up and Let Me Go” was also featured in an American TV advert and as a result of the exposure they gained through that, the single climbed to number 55 on the Billboard chart. The same song won “Best UK Video” in 2008’s UK MTV awards, beating out such worthy competitors as Coldplay, Duffy and Leona Lewis. They had a short tour of the USA in late 2008 and have just toured Australia and New Zealand to much acclaim.

The duo has also played at the three-day Coachella festival in the desert, where they played to great acclaim from the audience and on the same bill as Paul McCartney, Airborne Toxic Event and Franz Ferdinand. A second album is being prepared at the moment and all the signs point to The Ting Tings being a major success worldwide over the next few months.

Apple iTunes

Carolina Liar

Introducing

Carolina Liar

who have had several songs featured on TV shows, and performed two songs on 90210. I love the current single “Show Me What I’m Looking For”. It was a free single of the week on iTunes recently and I picked it up there and have played it a lot since. Lead singer is Chad Wolf, from South Carolina but the rest of the group are from Sweden, though they are now based in Los Angeles. Band consists of

Chad Wolf – vocals and guitar

Johan Carlsson – keyboards

Jim Almgren Gandara – guitar

Rickard Göransson – guitar

Max Grahn – drums

Erik Hääger – bass

The band’s only album so far is “Coming To Terms”.  I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more of them.

Carolina Liar’s songs have been featured in several TV shows such as “90210“, “Army Wives“, “Gossip Girl“, “Greek“, “The Hills“, “Kyle XY“, and “One Tree Hill“.    Click HERE  to read a little more about this great band and to listen to their music!

“Flashpoint”

For those of you, like me, hooked on the Canadian TV Series Flashpoint, the success of the police procedural series is no surprise, but CBS, who started to show the series in July 2008 in the USA as a summer filler, did not initially hold out much hope for it. Canadian series do not traditionally do well when shown in the USA but Flashpoint, with its strong cast, gripping characters and tension-filled plots has done so well that CBS went ahead and bought an 18 episode second season not long after the first few episodes had aired.

The show started off as a suggested plot for a one-off two hour TV film, provisionally titled “Sniper” but CTV was impressed enough to turn it into a series and “Sniper” became “Flashpoint”. Most of the cast is Canadian, including the lead, Enrico Colantoni (Sgt. Greg Parker) who famously played Keith Mars in “ Veronica Mars“. He took a special interest in the role as his brother had been a Canadian police officer in Toronto for 30 years! Although the city where the action takes place is not named, filming is done in Toronto and it is generally assumed that is where the series is set.

The only non-Canadian actor in the cast is Amy Jo Johnson, who is American, and a talented singer as well as a fine actress. Amy Jo, who plays “Jules Callahan”, has had her song “Dancing In-Between”, which was released as a single, played in the background of “Flashpoint” and had also sung in one of her previous roles in “Felicity”.  Amy Jo was pregnant during the filming of the first season which led to her character being written out of the show for a few weeks after having been ‘shot’. Much of the romantic action in the series revolves around Jules’s on/off relationship with the newest member of the team, Sam Braddock.

Hugh Dillon, who plays second in command “Ed Lane” in the series is also an accomplished singer and musician. As lead singer of the most commercially successful Canadian band of the 1990s, “The Headstones”, Hugh has also had a song of his, “Lost At Sea”, played on “Flashpoint.”

Gripping music has played a major part in the success of this fine show, and the artists featured are generally less well-known but the songs’ lyrics fit perfectly into the action on the screen.

The show doesn’t stick to the tired old routine of many other cop shows and the action sequences, combined with the very strong cast and excellent believable story-lines should make “Flashpoint” a long-running success for the Canadian TV network..
